Amos Recap: God’s Wisdom Triumphs Over Human Pride

Join us this week as we commit to making a choice, a choice in our daily lives to put God first.

This week’s message, “God’s Wisdom Triumphs Over Human Pride,” draws from 1 Corinthians 1:18–24, Philippians 2:12–16, and a recap of the book of Amos, with reminders from Psalm 98 to praise the Lord even in difficult times. We have walked through a week filled with grief, violence, and remembrance—from Patriot Day and the memory of 9/11, to tragic attacks, and even the assassination of a public Christian leader. In moments like these, praising God can feel heavy and difficult, yet Scripture calls us to lift our voices and look to the Lord’s wisdom rather than the chaos of human pride.
In 1 Corinthians 1:18–24, Paul reminds us that the message of the cross divides humanity: to the world it is foolishness, but to believers it is the very power and wisdom of God. Human reasoning cannot bring salvation; only Christ crucified and risen can save. The cross dismantles pride and reveals that God’s wisdom always overthrows human arrogance.
In Philippians 2:12–16, Paul urges believers to live out their salvation with humility, gratitude, and obedience, becoming light-bearers in a crooked and dark world. True faith is revealed not just in rituals or words, but in our daily actions and attitudes—shining as witnesses of Christ’s power and love.
The prophet Amos echoes this same truth. Israel’s pride, greed, and oppression of the poor led to judgment, yet God promised restoration and hope for those who returned to Him. The overarching theme of Amos is clear: God’s justice does not overlook sin, but His wisdom and sovereignty always triumph over human pride.
Taken together, these Scriptures remind us that our world’s wisdom leads only to corruption, greed, violence, and despair, but God’s wisdom leads to life, justice, humility, and salvation. We are called to remove pride, to reject selfishness, and to live as people who shine God’s light in a broken world—serving our families, communities, and neighbors with love and faithfulness.

Challenge Statement
Lay down your pride and selfish desires, and this week choose to live out God’s wisdom with humility and boldness. Stand as a light-bearer in a dark world, and take one intentional step to share the power and hope of Christ with someone else.

God’s Wisdom Over Human Pride

Through the cross of Christ, God shows that true wisdom and power are not found in human strength, intellect, or pride, but in humble faith and dependence on Him.

Living as Light-Bearers

Philippians reminds us that obedience, gratitude, and integrity shine brightly in a dark and broken world, proving God’s work in us and pointing others to His glory.

Judgment and Hope in Amos

The message of Amos reveals that pride, greed, and oppression lead to God’s judgment, yet through repentance and restoration we see God’s wisdom and sovereignty triumph.
