John 10: 22 – 30
Joel 2: 1 – 17
Hear and Be Protect – Judgement is Coming
Join us this week as we listen for God’s calling, as we repent, and as we share God’s love with others.
This week’s message, “Hear and Be Protected – Judgment Is Coming,” draws from John 10:22–30 and Joel 2:1–17, two powerful scriptures that call us to attention, reflection, and decision.
In John, we find Jesus at the Feast of Dedication—Hanukkah—being pressed by those who demanded clarity: “Are You the Christ? Tell us plainly.” His response is deeply revealing: He has already told them, but they do not believe. The reason? They are not His sheep. Jesus explains that His sheep hear His voice, He knows them, they follow Him, and nothing—absolutely nothing—can snatch them from His hand or His Father’s. This is a promise of eternal security for those who believe, a powerful declaration of identity and belonging for those who trust in Him.
In Joel, we hear the trumpet sounding—a prophetic alarm for a nation sliding into darkness. The Day of the Lord is described with vivid imagery: thick clouds, invading forces, consuming fire, and trembling creation. Yet within this terrifying prophecy, there is hope. God pleads with His people: “Return to Me with all your heart… Rend your hearts, not your garments.” The message is clear—repentance leads to mercy. Even in judgment, God offers a path to restoration for those who truly return to Him.
Together, these passages reveal the deep tension and beauty of God’s character: He is a righteous judge, but also a gracious and merciful Father. He warns of the consequences of rebellion while offering protection, peace, and eternal life to those who will listen to His voice and follow Him.
This sermon reminds us that in a world filled with noise, confusion, and spiritual blindness, we are not abandoned. Jesus calls out. His voice can still be heard. He still seeks the lost, the outcast, the weary, and the rebellious. He offers not just rescue from judgment, but the joy of belonging, the strength of community, and the power to live boldly in truth and grace.
Challenge Statement:
Are you listening? The voice of Jesus is calling—and time is short.
This week, silence the distractions, turn from whatever pulls you away, and respond to His call. Repent. Believe. Follow. Then rise up and share His truth with a world that is racing toward judgment unaware. God has chosen you to sound the alarm, to love boldly, and to live with purpose. Do not wait—hear His voice, stand in His protection, and bring others with you.
Jesus Knows His Sheep and Offers Eternal Protection (John 10:27–30)
Jesus clearly identifies His followers as those who hear His voice and follow Him.
He promises eternal life and security—no one can snatch His sheep from His hand.
This is a call to relationship, not just belief—He knows His sheep personally and protects them completely.
The Day of the Lord Is Real, Urgent, and Terrifying (Joel 2:1–11)
Joel describes a day of darkness, destruction, and divine judgment that will shake the heavens and earth.
This is not symbolic only—it is a warning to take seriously the consequences of ignoring God.
God will not withhold judgment forever; the call to wake up is urgent and non-negotiable.
Repentance Is the Only Path to Mercy and Restoration (Joel 2:12–17)
God’s invitation is still open: “Return to Me with all your heart.”
True repentance is not performative—it is heart-deep and community-wide.
When we turn back to God, we find not wrath, but a gracious and compassionate Father who desires to bless and restore.
